CES 2013 Talk is Cheap Put your Money Where Your Mouth Is with HAPIfork

CES 2013 January 10.13

The health and wellness sector of technology is growing quickly. Last year we discovered the FITBIT – the digital pedometer that tracks your every move. This year at Showstoppers during CES we found the HAPIfork. The HAPIfork monitors how fast and furious you are eating with the intent to slow you down to a proper pace.

The HAPIfork contains an electronic key with a printed circuit that links the extremity of the fork and the handle of the fork. When you put the fork in the mouth, it closes the electric loop. The device is able to count the number of fork servings during a meal because it only interacts with two parts of the body: your mouth and your hand.

HAPIfork will provide series of data for every meal. The exact time at which you start and end your meal. The amount of fork servings” taken per minute and per meal.
The specific duration of each “fork serving” interval. Your overall meal duration.

It touts that you will also benefit from additional data that will help you accurately monitor your progress including your overspeed rate, which is how much faster you are eating than you should. After you set your HAPIfork to a certain time interval between fork servings, your overspeed rate will be calculated for each meal. Day after day, your objective will be to gradually reduce your overspeed rate and use HAPIfork to help you achieve your goal.

The USB version is to ship Q1 to its Kickstarter supporters. The wireless version Q3. We are surpised the HAPIfork doesn’t also weigh each mouthful. Perhaps in the next generation.
